Since 2012, Columbia Bank employees have reported over 100,000 hours of volunteer time. Employee volunteer time continues to trend upwards as Columbia Bank grows its volunteer program. Employees are empowered and encouraged to use their 40 hours of paid volunteer time each year to actively engage with the nonprofits they are passionate about, recognizing the needs of their local communities.
In recognition and honor of our late CEO Melanie Dressel’s legacy of philanthropy and dedication to community, our leadership team designated Saturday, April 29, 2017 as the first annual Melanie Dressel Community Commitment Day. On this day groups all across the bank’s footprint participated in volunteer activities making a hands on impact in the lives of our neighbors and community members. The event was such a success we expanded it to a week-long in 2018. Melanie Dressel Community Commitment Week event is now held as an annual event the last week of April each year.
Melanie helped each of us understand both the importance and the value of giving back to our communities. She served as an extraordinary example, making time within her impossible schedule to do whatever was needed.
